Background of the Study

Human trafficking is a severe human rights violation and a prevalent issue in Agatu Local Government Area, Benue State. Factors such as poverty, lack of education, and inadequate enforcement of laws contribute to its persistence. Development communication has emerged as a critical tool in combating human trafficking by raising awareness, empowering vulnerable groups, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Human trafficking remains a significant challenge in Agatu, with devastating consequences for individuals and communities. Limited awareness, cultural barriers, and insufficient communication efforts hinder progress in addressing this issue. This study evaluates the effectiveness of development communication strategies in combating human trafficking.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  1. To identify the factors contributing to human trafficking in Agatu.

  2. To evaluate the communication strategies used to combat human trafficking.

  3. To propose recommendations for enhancing communication efforts to address human trafficking.

  3. Collaboration among stakeholders enhances the effectiveness of anti-trafficking communication strategies.

1.6 Significance of the Study

The study provides insights into the role of communication in addressing human trafficking, offering practical recommendations for policymakers, NGOs, and community organizations in Agatu to enhance their efforts.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study focuses on communication strategies for combating human trafficking in Agatu. Limitations include access to reliable data and variations in the effectiveness of existing programs.
